Permitted Flying Stages

  • Up to 36 weeks: Travelers with uncomplicated pregnancies can fly without a medical certificate until the end of the 36th week of pregnancy or four weeks before the expected due date.
  • From 28 weeks onwards: It is recommended to carry an up-to-date medical certificate from a gynecologist confirming that the pregnancy is progressing without complications, stating the expected due date, and explicitly allowing air travel.
  • Twin or multiple pregnancies: Flying is allowed up to the end of the 32nd week of pregnancy.

Health Recommendations

  • Thrombosis prevention: Due to an increased risk of thrombosis during pregnancy, it is recommended to wear compression stockings while flying.

Required Documentation

  • Lufthansa certificate for pregnant travelers: A downloadable certificate for the gynecologist to fill out should be carried during the flight.

Legal Considerations

  • Country-specific regulations: Pregnant travelers should verify country-specific laws regarding air travel and entry requirements to avoid potential issues. Lufthansa accepts no liability for any denial of boarding or entry based on local legislation.
